Beth Am Shalom Honors Dick and Diane Gaines

On October 27, over 130 attendees gathered at Beth Am Shalom to honor Dick and Diane Gaines for their service to Beth Am Shalom, Ocean County Jewish Federation, the state of Israel, and the world-wide Jewish community.

As part of the Tribute, Max Schloff organized the publication of an Ad Journal in honor of Dick and Diane. Numerous relatives, friends, local professionals and business owners purchased ads in their honor. The Journal was distributed at the event.

The evening began with a beautiful Shabbat dinner that was organized by Dinner and Oneg Chair, Fran Gimpel. The dinner was followed by a Shabbat service led by Rabbi Stephen Gold and Cantor Arlyne Unger during which Dick treated the audience to his beautiful singing voice. At the program that followed the service, Charlotte Krupnick, Pam Ligorski, and Fred Schragger paid tribute to the Gaines’s with stories about their lives, including their generous and far-reaching philanthropy. Fran Gimpel, who also served as Mistress of Ceremonies, spoke about Dick and Diane’s accomplishments and presented Dick and Diane with Proclamations from the Lakewood Township Committee and The Ocean County Board of Freeholders, as well as congratulatory letters from Vice President Joseph Biden, U.S Representative Chris Smith, the 30th Legislative District, Senator Robert Singer, Assemblymen Ned Thompson and Sean Kean, and Rabbi Rick Jacobs, President of the Union of Reform Judaism. Max remarked that Dick literally put his life on the line for the benefit of the Jewish people when he went on several missions to Israel and other countries, sometimes under dangerous conditions.

During his closing remarks, Dick Gaines thanked everyone for the wonderful Tribute. The program was followed by a delicious Oneg filled with sumptuous pastries and fruits.

The event was enjoyed by all who attended it.
