Senior Youth Group Mitzvah

Beth Am Shalom Senior Youth Group News

On beautiful snowy January 24, 2016 the Senior Youth Group of Beth Am Shalom met for their Mitzvah Event. After a P,B,& J lunch at the Temple the group and the Advisor, Mrs. Zirin went to Leisure Park, A Senior Living Community on Route 70 in Lakewood. The program for the day was free manicures and then Bingo.

Any Assisted Living resident who wished to participate was invited to have a free manicure with the members of the Youth Group giving their professional style of service. Many ladies and 2 gentlemen availed themselves of the service and enjoyed it thoroughly. Conversation abounded with much laughter and witty commentary from the residents. They were so delighted to have the company of the young people and, of course the free manicures, that they invited the group to return weekly. The group was thrilled and plan to return in the spring.

After manicures were done the group joined the residents in their Dining Hall for several rousing games of bingo at which the group called the numbers, assisted in keeping up with the game and distributed prizes.

All in all it was a wonderful way to spend a snowy afternoon with people who otherwise would have been just sitting by themselves. Seeing the smiles and happy faces of the teens and the seniors was worth a million dollars. The Youth Group learned the importance of giving to the community and the value of caring, compassion and helping those in need.

The group will next enjoy an afternoon of ice skating on February 28th. The group plans on alternating community activities with social events.
